I think he's handled the whole thing HORRIBLY. When you're the President and you say "THIS is a red line!", you can't wait until that red line is actually crossed and then DISCUSS it...

He should have never made the red line statement in the FIRST place, but after he did he was STUCK..

As SOON as he had confirmation (and he says he HAS confirmation) that this was done by the Regime then he should have IMMEDIATELY hit their airfields and command and control centers.

Now he's allowed Assad to move his planes and his top military personnel and given the Russians time to throw their threats around and he's made the whole thing MORE dangerous....

If he had hit right away there would have been complaints and objections but it would have been over with and done. It all would have settled down in a couple days.
