I am standing up for it. I believe that Syria will escalate. You don't. I could be wrong, you could be wrong. You offered opinions, I offered opinions. I'd prefer that we not engage militarily in middle east affairs regardless. If you don't agree, well...I'm not too interested in putting too much effort into changing your mind, because it probably can't be changed. I will say that using historical reactions is meaningless. The political landscape is very different now than it was just 5 years ago. We are no longer perceived as the invincible superpower. Russia has reestablished itself as a superpower and China has been flexing its muscles these past couple of years. Iran absolutely wants a war to start to fulfill religious prophecy. And Iran and Syria are closely aligned. Our biggest problem is that we are still trying to throw our weight around, but the world perceives us as weak and uncommitted to the realities of war. They perceive us as a wounded animal and vulnerable. That's opinion. I can give some anecdotal evidence, but I can't prove any of it. I understand that you disagree based on how other countries reacted 45 years ago.
