That was an easy call as it was the "business like" decision for Nokia to make-buy out the remainder of the growing profitable business and sell the loser along with the debt to Microsoft.

On the other hand, the strategy of Microsoft is to make "Windows mobile" an add on to the Office suite and to the phones. The hardware will sell for cost or be a loss leader to protect Microsoft's flag ship business and market share from incursion from Google.
