$AAPL: Apple AAPL +2.15% shares rose 2% to trade slightly below $500 on brisk volume. In addition to an event on Tuesday at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters, where it is expected to unveil new models of the iPhone, Apple also invited the media to a presentation on Sept. 11 in Beijing. The China event has prompted speculation that Apple will launch the iPhone with China Mobile Ltd.

The iPhone maker also got a boost from Cantor Fitzgerald, which on Wednesday initiated coverage of the company’s stock with a buy rating and a 12-month price target of $777.

“Apple’s stock has been challenged this year and down 8% [year to date] vs. a 15% increase for the S&P 500 index; however, we believe the stock is in the midst of a recovery,” Brian White at Cantor said in a note.

Bloomberg
Apple Inc.’s iPhone 5.
“In our view, Apple is on the verge of an extended product cycle that we believe will include a refresh of existing products, increased penetration within existing device categories and entirely new market opportunities.”
