I've got mixed feelings about Monument Valley, Neeka. I was there three years ago (third return visit, as I recall). And each time I've returned, it seems the Navajo "guides" try for just a little more bang for MY buck. IOW, they'll take you (and a group) for a special tour, but you'll get "Taken" for more than just a tour.
We've stayed at Gouldings Motel, and I've stayed at their campgrounds. I might add, there is no alcohol served anywhere on Navajo property. However, the seven P's takes care of that.
Gouldings' restaurant is good, but I'd rather do something outside on a wood burning fire in the way of dinner.
Now don't let my thoughts detour anyone away from the Park proper; it's glorious scenery, and photo ops abound on the 17 mile drive (beware, most of the road is heavily washboarded). However, after my last trip there, spending money for a guide is probably good if you've never been there, but for return visits, it's not a good value.
Here's a shot from my last visit (unguided). It's the Left Mitten which is not too far from the visitor's center.
