Its amazing that any great import could be ascribed so seriously to something as inconsequential as the rite of circumcision. Or whether you sacrificed a pig or a goat to god, & believe me the former (and latter)started some huge internal wars as did the priests letting all hell break loose over how the water was poured in some other silly ritual dispute. Fast forward a 1yr later, 70,000 Jews had murdered Jews over this religious ritual cr@p, and it wasn't to end for another 200yrs.
No wonder the Greeks were laughing at them. The Romans 200yrs later saw it was getting out of hand when the Jewish Taliban took over but already had eyes on Alexandria & Egypt & Syria so it was all over anyways. But alas for the poor Jewish moderates then as today, after their radical Taliban brothers of the day brought all the attention to themselves, the moderates got sacked with all the rest.
* That "love" became the main theme of the new covenant, well look where all the hate & pride got them? Even a dumb animal learns how not to get whipped after 700yrs of getting whipped. But love does work, has been since the dawn of time, just look at any mother & child relationship, what we call "love" is worked into the very fabric of the natural world in the maternal instinct. One doesn't have to be a son of god to see this, most wise men saw it, all human beings experience it.
Of course there were the Phillistines & the Saduccee's that had direct disagreement about the inheritorship rites of women, you can just guess what those controls were all about, keeping lineages pure & property rights/rites under priest control, always #1 game in town. |
