Well that is very much like Automatic Target Recognition. The actual processing is done by performing an fft on a time series of information. I personally do not consider knowing how to process time series in frequencies and then determining the frequencies are not random as defining a great scientist.

A lot of my engineering work was evaluating how to make the FFT process go faster if not keeping up with the realtime data.

If you had ever been involved with actual advanced engineering you likely would not be so in awe of whatever you are in awe of.

Gather the raw data, Align the data, Process the data to an image, Evaluate the image for area of interest.

Consider the problem of gathering data from a olatform that is moving for a minute and may engage in safety course changes of up to several Gs in Pitch and Yaw. and still keep the spacial timing alignment of all data collected several tens of miles distant. Not a platform moviing in a nice smooth obit.

Here we take this. and create this.
But the this is a large area and we are really only interested in the hidden danger. So the radar image pixels are analysed even more looking for possible dangerous stuff . And automatically the area where danger may lurk is frame to a human operator can see this.
