I don't mind paying taxes if I feel like I am getting back a level of service commensurate with the amount of taxes I am paying. I feel that's true of WA state.
Exactly.

Now consider how much people pay in federal taxes, including SS and Medicare. Are we getting a level of service commensurate with the amount of taxes we're paying? Judging from the approval numbers, definitely not.

That's because we have convinced ourselves that paying very little taxes will generate the same level of services that we got when tax rates were much higher. The American school system is going to hell in a hand basket.........and the US PO is not far behind. The mail service has dropped dramatically in the last 3 years and I rarely get my mail before 6 PM these days. And did I mention that in any given month I rarely get all my bills. Its a good thing I pay bills online. We have bridges collapsing, roads wearing out and we are still running a deficit.

Now who is that's always telling us we pay too many taxes and that we can pay less and get better service?
How is paying lots of taxes being conservative?
Conservatives believe in flatter taxes. Sales taxes and property taxes would qualify.

From what I have read on this thread, conservatives believe they should pay no taxes.
