OpenROUTE Networks Appoints Jack Ritter Vice
President of Operations for Asia Pacific Region

WESTBORO, Mass., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenROUTE Networks, Inc. today announced
that Jack A. Ritter, a senior executive with extensive experience in international business, has been
appointed vice president of operations for the Asia Pacific region. Ritter, whose appointment is
effective immediately, reports directly to Daniel J. Capone, Jr., president and chief executive officer.
OpenROUTE Networks is a wholly owned subsidiary of Proteon, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTON - news).

Ritter joins OpenROUTE Networks from South East Asia Trade Alliance, where he was managing
director of sales and marketing. In his new role, he will develop and manage all OpenROUTE
Networks sales and marketing activities for the region. OpenROUTE Networks currently markets
its products through Proteon Networks Pte. Ltd. Affiliates in Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong and
Tokyo.

Ritter has more than two decades of management and business development experience in the
technology sector. In his previous role, he directed international business development technical
sales and consulting services in government, commercial, military and paramilitary markets. Prior to
that, he was director of independent company sales for Fujitsu Network Switching of America.
During his long career, he has also held senior sales and marketing positions at RAE Associates,
Telmart Systems, Wescom, and General Telephone Company.

Ritter also served a number of years in the U.S. Navy as a chief communications technician, having
conducted a number of telecommunications research studies. He holds an undergraduate degree
from the University of Maryland and attended the U.S. Armed Forces Institute. Ritter, a native of
Iowa, is also a graduate of 12 federal government management, leadership, electronics, data
system, radio and wireline communication system technical schools.
