Jerk of the Week - Shand Stamper

Our usual contenders for Jerk of the Week honors here at RightWingPatriot.com are those who stand upon the national stage, seeking to destroy our culture and way of life. There are time when we are reminded that we have to keep our eyes focused not only upon national discourse, but also closer to home. Our winner this week is an art teacher at the McCracken County High School in Kentucky who chose to desecrate the American flag, Old Glory.
Shand Stamper, an art teacher at the high school, set up the display that recreated a controversial exhibit at the Chicago Institute of Art back in 1989 by "Dread" Scott Tyler. The art exhibit has an American flag lying upon the ground with a music stand upon the flag. Students were encouraged to stand upon the flag and write down their thoughts on how they felt standing upon the flag. Local residents were infuriated and the exhibit was removed. School administrators have said that they did not sanction the exhibit and that the flag would be properly disposed of by burning as it had touched the ground.
The art teacher, Shand Stamper, released a statement saying, “I love our flag and the nation it stands for. I love the freedom I enjoy because of our brave veterans. I feel sick and deeply sad that through my actions I have dishonored these men and women and also poorly represented you all. (To say) I am devastated by my actions bringing outrage and negativity on you is a gross understatement.” My reply is that this is utter bull.
If the art teacher wanted to start a conversation about the original art exhibit, she could have brought it up in class or shown an image of the exhibit in question. Stamper says that the exhibit was student-driven and that she had told her students that she would fully support their decision. She also said that she should “have gotten permission before proceeding with a lesson that could be deemed offensive.” Are not teachers supposed to be adults? Are they not supposed to set an example for their students? She should have seen immediately that such a display is offensive and then had the students talk about it. It blows my mind when someone says that having people stand upon the flag "could be deemed offensive." Could? How about hell yes, it's offensive!
It's obvious that Stamper is back-pedaling to cover her backside. My belief is that she was stoked about the project and is now trying to save her job. Personally, I think you have the freedom and right to desecrate an American flag. Do I agree with such desecration? No, I do not. In fact, I want to throw a punch into the face of anyone who disrespects our flag. However, I must defend unpopular free speech as much as popular free speech. That doesn't excuse any consequences for a person's actions. If the taxpayers of McCracken County think they would be better served by firing Shand Stamper and replacing her with another teacher, I'm fine with that.
The thing we need to take away from this situation is that we must be forever vigilant on what is being taught in our local schools. Progressive liberal teachers love brainwashing the youth of our country as we told our kids what our parents said to us, that we should respect our teachers. The sad situation is that teaching has changed dramatically in the last few decades as liberal progressives have successfully conquered education under our very noses. Talk to your children and go over their notes. Discuss their teachers and meet with their teachers to find out where they stand. It behooves all parents to act as a bulwark against the liberal indoctrination of their children
