There is a time and a place for these SWAT units, but in this instance, one wonders whether it wouldn't have been more sensible to stand back and let it play out.

The use of these teams for apprehension of violent criminals is justifiable (in small towns the same people tend to perform that role as the ones who man the SWAT unit). And I guess this old man was "violent" in a technical sense. But it isn't like he was a sniper holed up where he could pick off people walking down the street. They had control of the situation and probably should have given it more time.

That police department is sort of rinky-dink anyway. They would have never caught the man who killed my brother if someone hadn't turned on the guy who did it hadn't screwed a guy over three years after-the-fact, which pissed the guy badly enough to make him turn him in.
