Yes, agreed there is a substantial increase from last year's all-time-low, but as the graph shows, the overall downward trend is (currently at least) still intact. There is always considerable year-to-year climate variation on top of any long-term trend, and so to trumpet the increase over last year without putting it into a multi-year context is clearly designed to mislead rather than to inform.

And to imply (as the article does) that the delay in releasing the climate report has anything to do with the current state of the ice cap is similarly misleading.

I personally believe that anthropogenic climate change is real, which is why I am in favor of nuclear power and fracking (because natural gas displaces coal).
