<Consider our WaveSwitch 9200 backbone switch ("the fastest switch we've ever tested"
- Tolly Group, June 1997). It has Layer 3 switching, and Layer 3 intelligence. With this
intelligence, you control the broadcast/multicast traffic in your network, and prevent it
from wasting valuable network bandwidth.

Since 1988, Plaintree has designed high performance LAN
switching products for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and
FDDI. Now, with our NextWave Switching technology, Plaintree is
the only company that provides the new model required for the next
generation of campus LANs. >

Press release
NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1997--Plaintree(R) Systems
(NASDAQ:LANPF)(TSE:LAN) announced today that its WaveSwitch(TM) 9200 was chosen to
supply Media Vault Ltd. (U.K.) with a new network to service its multimedia production team
demands. Media Vault produces high quality customized interactive multimedia products.
A number of suppliers tendered for the contract, which was awarded to value added reseller
(VAR) AppleCentre Warrington. AppleCentre Warrington and Gomark, Plaintree's U.K. distributor,
are providing support for the switching equipment. The award decision was heavily influenced by
the fact that AppleCentre Warrington's solution included the Plaintree WaveSwitch 9200, as ATM
was rejected in favor of Gigabit Ethernet switching.
"The right switching equipment was absolutely crucial to which solution we chose," remarked Dr.
Jette Burford, Managing Director of Media Vault. "The new system has already exceeded our
expectations in terms of speed, efficiency, automatic configuration and the low cost of ownership.
We are absolutely delighted."
Thirty producers currently use Media Vault's new system, although the switch is capable of
supporting many more. The first site has been in operation for more than a month; six sites, all
using Plaintree switching equipment, will be inter-connected when the installation is finished. The
WaveSwitch 9200's will bring multimedia applications within everyone's reach by eliminating
bandwidth limitations and by providing capabilities for multicast, traffic prioritization, and bandwidth
reservation.
The Plaintree WaveSwitch 9200, a Gigabit Backbone Switch, can sustain 16 one Gigabit per
second or 128 one hundred Megabit per second full-duplex streams at full wire speed. Its design
employs a two-stage non-blocking switching fabric to provide unsurpassed availability, throughput,
expandability and port density.
