HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - Chinese Vice Premier Zhu Rongji said the renminbi will not be devalued.
"I can solemnly declare that the Chinese RMB will not be devalued," Zhu told Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew in a meeting in Singapore. The official Xinhua news agency in a dispatch monitored here reported that Zhu said China is concerned about the financial turmoil in the region but added that he is optimistic about the prospects of the Chinese economy.
