12-year-old boy arrested in string of armed robberies

EVERETT, Wash. -- A 12-year-old boy has been arrested for his involvement in robbing a store at gunpoint, and stealing a tip jar from a barista stand, according to police.
The first crime occurred in late August at Pecks Drive Market when witness say a young man pointed a black revolver directly at a clerk, and demanded money from the cash register.
The suspect fled on foot after the clerk filled a plastic bag with money, and was not located by police.
Police say the boy also robbed Hillbilly Hotties Coffee Company in September. The barista reported that the suspect stopped his bike at the drive-up window, ordered coffee, pulled out a black revolver and demanded money.
The barista told the boy there was no money, so the he took the tip jar before riding off, police say.
"In both cases he pointed the weapon at the victims and demanded their money," Officer Aaron Snell with the Everett Police Department said.
Detectives noted similarities in the crimes and used video surveillance to confirm the suspect was a 12-year-old boy from Everett.
"Based on surveillance and victims, he had the gun and actually pointed it at the victims," Officer Snell said.
Police arrested the boy, who confessed to the two robberies and told investigators that the gun was loaned to him by a 16-year-old in Arlington. He proceeded to tell investigators that he had returned the gun, along with some of the money to the teen.
"He actually told us who was involved in the other robberies, and where the gun was located," Officer Snell said.
The teen was identified by police and arrested after confessing to a prior burglary at Jimmie Johns. The gun was turned over to police who are now searching for the teen's accomplice in the Jimmy Johns robbery.
Both the 12-year-old and 16-year-old were booked into the Denny Juvenile Justice Center.
