You seem to want to go back to the time before than when few people obtained an education and illiteracy was pervasive.
Illiteracy is pervasive today among graduates of inner city public schools, the very people you claim to care about. How is it harmful to encourage competition in education? How is giving parents a real choice undemocratic? Why should DC bureaucrats decide what is the best education for every child in a country as large and diverse as the US?
