Not even close to the truth, the foundations of science are not rooted in the Christian church but part of a larger continuum of which it was an extension.

The Greek Kings of Egypt continued the tradition of Alexander's philosophy and regarded the advances in science, literature and medicine as among the treasures of the empire. For centuries they generously supported research and enlightenment even giving body to the Christian/Judaic texts starting 200-300BC. The library of Alexandria at it’s peak it is estimated contained nearly one million scrolls. This was when humans first collected, seriously and systematically, the knowledge of the world.

Religious superstitions didn’t assist those understandings. They were only barely tangential to them, in the way any philosophy helps to first drive a question in science even today.

Also ignores the contribution of Muslims to western science. How do you add Christian belief to science curriculums when even Christians do not agree in what is “Christian truth”? How do you reconcile the beliefs of someone like Congressman Paul Broun (R-Ga.) who labels himself a Christian who said that evolution and the big bang theory are “lies straight from the pit of Hell”?
