The Mouse Roars: Disney Plans April Launch of Digital Net...................................... Following through on her promise that Disney [DIS] would launch four new digital nets, pres Gerry Laybourne unveiled plans to launch Toon Disney, a 24-hour basic cable net featuring Disney animation, which will launch April 18, Disney Channel's 15th Anniversary. The new channel can only be carried by affiliates who carry Disney Channel as a basic net. "It's an incentive to add Disney to the basic tier," says Anne Sweeney, pres of Disney Channel. Sweeney wouldn't comment on what other types or how many digital nets the programmer would launch. The net has scheduled several meetings with cable execs at the Western Show to pitch the product.
