Windows Phone 8 Gets FIPS 140-2 Validation Certificates, Will Help Federal Government Customers

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform today passed another important hurdle in breaking into Federal government customers. This is a great news for US and Canadian federal government customers, health sector customers as well as other market sectors that require FIPS 140-2 validation for deploying any platform. Windows Phone 8 has received all 9 FIPS 140-2 cryptographic module certificates from the US CMVP and Canadian CSEC validation programs.

Here is the full list of certificates,
•Kernel Mode Cryptographic Primitives Library (CNG.SYS)
•Cryptographic Primitives Library (BCRYPTPRIMITIVES.DLL)
•Enhanced DSS and Diffie-Hellman Cryptographic Provider (DSSENH.DLL)
•Enhanced Cryptographic Provider (RSAENH.DLL)
•Boot Manager
•BitLocker® Windows OS Loader (WINLOAD)
•Code Integrity (CI.DLL)
•BitLocker® Windows Resume (WINRESUME)
•BitLocker® Dump Filter (DUMPFVE.SYS)
The certification should add further momentum to the increased enterprise uptake of Windows Phone, not just in US, but around the world, where other agencies often take US certification as valid endorsement of security.
