Its pretty easy to imagine in the not too distant future, that a society could exist where using wearable electronics, everyone's every move is documented. An electronic collar with 360 deg HD video constantly recorded to the cloud. Such a society could outlaw not only all guns, but all lethal weapons. A non-lethal but incapacitating mechanism like a taser could be in the collar as a last resort of deterrence.

I fully expect such a society too be tried at some point. It will be interesting to see how it fares. There are clearly some mindsets which would see this as the ultimate Hell of 1984/Brave New World visited upon us. But when I look at what the younger generation thinks of privacy (they post everything on line), why not live a fully documented life? IIRC there is some older dude at MSFT, who is pushing the idea of a fully documented life, and more or less lives his life that way now. He is not to my knowledge pushing the idea of using it for safety. But why not? For very little $ you could eliminate police/security, and greatly enhance other safety (EMC, fire, etc) due to rapid notification.

If it does happen, it will require most the current generations to die off first, because they haven't the mindset to adapt, but subsequent generations might well not suffer the phobias of the past.

There would BTW be an enormous political divide on accepting such solutions.
