That would be my guess. If they don't believe the stock will rise in the next 30 days, they may as well dump and rebuy in mid-january.

Of course if Carnival Cruise Lines is announced before the end of the year, they have to buy back in fast, and lose the write-off as well as the first few points of the (inevitable) rise.
