The Secret of Life my son... Also today in the Wall Street Journal; LXR Biotech Discovers Apoptosis-Related Gene Family RICHMOND, Calif. (Dow Jones)--LXR Biotechnology Inc. (LXR) said it has discovered a new family of genes that regulate life and death of cells in major organs of the body. In a press release Monday, the company said it has filed patent applications covering the new secreted apoptosis-related proteins and corresponding gene sequences. Apoptosis is the process of genetically programmed cell death. LXR Biotechnology said its evidence suggests the expression of one of the proteins may accelerate cell death while expression of another inhibits it. The company said this technology could have numerous applications such as the suppression of the death of heart muscle in the hours after a heart attack or increasing the senstivity of tumor cells to anti-cancer therapy. LXR Biotechnology is a biopharmaceutical company. Maybe now the ball starts rolling?
