Could you clarify the near 100% wafer yield achieved by Intel at Fab. 12.

A) Sometimes fab. people talk about 95-100% wafer yield as measuring number of wafers meeting spec (parameters) divided by wafers started. This takes into account wafer breakage, and gross mis-processing. Most Leading edge fabs achieve pretty close to 100% yield nowadays.

B) A second yield is the wafer probe yield where the wafer is tested on a did by die basis with a suite of test vectors to determine functionality of the chip. This testing is pretty thorough as the vendors do not want to package bad die.

If intel achieved close to 100% on their runs as defined in A) then this tells us that they clsoe to running at full bore with their wafer management in reasinable order at Fab 12. However the yields are "Normal" and average with other leading Fabs.

OTHO if they get 95+% die probe yield on die as large as PII one would find this quite remarkable.

Best Regards,

Kash
