I write english, not american Lindy. An imperial gallon of Negroes is not the same as a US gallon of Blacks. So I'll use Negro to describe near-enough for government work people of African origin [nothing to do with culture]. It's more precise than Black, which doesn't differentiate among Melanesians and other seriously melanin-rich people. American culture is not yet compulsory. The age of reason and enlightenment is nice, but it's still pretty thin on the ground in Anglo-Saxon culture. Chav culture is more powerful. The modern fight is more individual versus state than Aristotle vs Plato [though perhaps that's the same fight]. Being ignorant of those philosophers, I don't know which ones were and are on my side. Individuals are increasingly state chattels with the proportion of state spending continuing to increase far beyond what the tithing of the big religions took. At least church was only a big deal on Sundays. Now the bloody IRD and swarms of government thugs are attacking all the time. Mqurice
