nataraj,

<<Bottom line, from the press release, they are clearly stating that the EPS was 38c/share before charges.>>

I don't think they said that, their lawyers wouldn't let them, they've been sued too recently for making sloppy financial statements. The press release did say "Earnings (loss) per share of commom stock $ 0.01".

It also said "Operating income for the quarter, prior to a series of one-time special charges related directly to the company's recent financings, was $17.1 million." Yes that would equate to about 38 cents per share OPERATING PROFIT per share, but that's ignoring interest, taxes and extraordinary charges. This quarter that was enough to reduce the .38 to .01.

I've noticed along with others on different threads that Zacks and First Call state their analyst's estimates differently. One gives estimates after extraordinary items, the other before. As far as I know, neither ignores interest or taxes when giving their estimates. I bet a few analysts are scratching their heads tonight on this one trying to figure where to from here. I've not checked the differences between Zacks and First Call to see what they may have been expecting for extraordinary charges this quarter.
