We camped for a few days in Havasu City nearby was the big attraction - the London Bridge.

We also camped down the road in Laughlin in a campground on a hillside above the casinos but with a view of the river. I remember the food was wonderful and cheap and getting our filthy 5th wheel washed and waxed for $75 including tip. I'd have to go to the storeroom to check our trip diary..but I believe it was early spring of 85.

Same trip we also camped N of Phoenix in horse country in a beautiful campground.

Some of the Arizona campgrounds along I-10 have 6,000 +/- sites. They are nearly vacant in summer but become small cities in winter. We saw them both ways but don't recall ever staying in one.

Our rig at the time was a 31' HR 5th wheel. We would take off for months at a time. My all time favorite started out to be a 3 week winter trip to Florida. 1st stop was a state park in St Augustine, a beautiful ocean front location and very interesting town but pretty chilly, so we headed further south. We drove to the Keys and camped in state parks on Key Largo and Long Key.
One day we drove to Key West but the civilian campground listed in our book was full. On the way out we stopped at Sigsbee Navy Base for a PX and commissary run. To our surprise a Navy ocean front campground was across a sport field from where we were shopping. We got a military ocean front site for $10 per day with full hookups and ended up staying there for 7 months. The fishing, snorkeling and diving was just awesome. We had campground fish fry's every week or 2 and in between we had our daily catch or there was a large ocean front Tiki Hut just down from the campground that had cheap but delicious seafood and a Jimmy Buffet type band almost every night.

That is where we 1st learned about the military campground book. We bought one, added it to our collection and never left home without all of them. We also learned to always call ahead for a site reservation. My wife became an expert at checking out all the campground books we carried and made the reservations sometimes just a few hours ahead. But it saved the aggravation of driving into a full campground.

In the winter months in the South there are a lot of full campgrounds.
