Even the Chinese are trying to cut back on coal burning and attempting to clean the stuff that comes out of their coal burning power generation.

You are misinformed. The Chinese are bringing new coal plants on line at a rate of one every few weeks.

The newer plants that the Chinese are putting in do have scrubbers for particulates and other sulfur based pollutants, but they aren't (and shouldn't) doing anything about reducing CO2 output.

China knows one thing that the U.S. has yet to grasp. They know that they cannot survive without coal. Their very limited supply of coal is going to be what finally stops the Chinese juggernaut. And in 45 years when China's coal runs out and the EU finally figures out that they don't have enough real estate with predictable wind patterns to erect enough wind generators to provide baseload power requirments, Coal will be what saves the U.S. from economic ruin. Just as it has powered the industrial and technology revolutions of the past 200 years.
