A few years ago when I was running OS/2 I lost some money on MSFT puts. I've been waiting to buy puts again for a long time. Maybe it is an emotional thing, and I never learned my lesson. But I still bought some puts again last Thursday.
So far, it looks like I am going to lose again but I have hope that we could see a $10 decline in the next week depending on what the Justice Department says. This was ballsey-- biz.yahoo.com
But I just cannot beleive that the Judge will rule in MSFT's favor. IE is not a part of W95, what a joke, we all know that. If the consent degree is worded in such a way that MSFT gets away with this sort of behaviour again I'll be surprised, but is so obvious that MSFT practices have been very unfair to Netscape. Maybe the judge is just listening and asking questions to be sure that he is perceived to have been fair, when in fact he is going to surprise everybody by finally dealing a blow against the evil empire. Actually, now that I had to switch to W95...(and we are even going to switch at work too finally) I do like the OS, but MSFT does seem to play dirty.
Microsoft will have to remove IE from W95 and pay a hefty fine. Netscape will be on everybody's machine in five years and Microsoft's browser will be known as an expensive, bloated mess. Other bearish comments I have: Microsoft will not make nearly as much on their software this Christmas as you might think ...there are way too many better alternatives to MSFT software --for games especially. MSFT cant be doing too great overseas, with so much piracy you can bet that devalued currencies prefer the pirate copies to the legal ones, and that will be a problem for growth.
Unless MSFT does some amazing things with the next version of windows, I will continually be tempted to buy puts on this one. |
