Michael D.: RE:<If anybody is really serious about competing with Intel, they better be ready to shell out 5-7 billion bucks>

I saw a reference to the 10 largest fabs under construction around the world and they were all around 1.5B each. As I showed you in my original post, a single fab processing 5000 wafers a week can produce 44 million CPU's (AMD K6-3D's). Heck, you could make 36M Deschutes, if the die size is 100mm, and they should go for at least $150 a pop, right, so the total revenue from one fab is 5.4 BILLION dollars. What's wrong with this picture is that AMD and NSM and MOT and IBM can do the same thing. When that happens, Deschutes, or its clone equivalent will not be selling for $150 but for $50-$100.

Making 5 billion dollars in profits
gives them alot of flexibility

Yes, it gives them the flexibility to only make 3 billion dollars in profits.
