When it comes to halibut and which one to eat, most locals go with those under 50 pounds. I prefer under 30. Big ones are very grainy and are often infested with worms around the belly cavity. They are just not as tasty.

From an Alaskan who has fished halibut for personal use and commercially for decades.

the large ones, those over 100 pounds, are almost exclusively female as well. A good reason to release them.
