Well, that certainly made interesting reading. Since I can drive down to my local AAA (automobile club) office any time, produce cash, and buy travelers checks denominated in Canadian dollars fee-free, no hassle, no government paper, I think that's the best idea. One thing that many Americans may not know, however, is that there is so much crime connected with travelers checks in Vancouver that cashing one there is a tedious procedure. I guess a lot of tourists get mugged, and also there's a lot of drug trafficking. So your checks are compared to a lengthy list of numbers provided by law enforcement before you can get your money. It can take an hour--after you finally reach the head of the line! Much less hassle in the eastern provinces.
