I find it difficult to believe you would not make a moral judgement watching (for example) your wife being raped? But you have said so, haven't you?
I don't need to make a moral judgment to protect my wife from being raped. I wouldn't bother with any judgment, I would instinctively protect my wife and family, and make judgments later. I can make a legal judgment that my wife was raped and the rapist should be punished.
I don't need to call Hitler or Stalin as evil, I would charge them with murder and crimes against humanity, and after a fair trial, I would have them hanged. The same goes for Sadam Hussein or Timothy McVeigh. I want people punished for what they have done, and not for my moral judgment that they are basically good or basically evil. I'll leave that to you. If anyone demands a moral judgment from me, I'll refer them to you for further processing, if it pleases you.
But I don't want to use my words, as Ayn seems to be speaking directly to you--and she does speak so very much better than I.
I've done my pass of Objectivism. I prefer you comments over Ayn Rand's any day of the week. |
