Somehow the above sounds like a person who recognises the necessity to make judgements when he has "time to make a judgement'.
The next quote sounds like an entirely different person
"I will not make a moral judgement unless someone puts a gun to my head."
Seems pretty adamant with no qualifier other than threat of death? But I may have misunderstood you some how?
"Anyway, I won't be making moral judgements for runaway cars, or threatening sharks or rapists attacking my wife."
In terms of the first two, I do not know anybody who would. However, I think everyone has already made a moral judgement about rape, and have made a judgement as to whether it is right or wrong. Most people would not need a gun to their head to make a moral judgement about moral issues. I mean, we vote on moral issues such as gun control, gay marriage, etc.--don't we. I know that I make moral judgements when I vote and nobody has yet held a gun to my head to force me to judge.

I mean acts that are more immoral than acts that are less immoral. I believe that some acts of wrong, such as a child stealing a 2 cent candy, are mere peccadillos--while other acts such as murder, are extremely immoral. Generally, I believe that we judge degrees of immorality by degrees of harm. In certain instances, this is so subjective as to make fair judgement very difficult.
