troy,
Amerindo was profiled in the WSJ as the worst performing fund in the country. Take a clue from that. Also notice the offshore fund is a net seller, the fund managers have their money in that fund. Someday they may own the whole company when its selling for $2 a share. It is curious that they are buying in the face of disaster news. A squeeze would be tough because its based on the premise that the shorts will cover and move the price higher as they cover their losses. The problem with that is the short positions are in the money already and the longs would have to move the price at least ten points higher to attract any interest. Any runup now would bring in more short sellers.
Take a look at Amerindo on Edgar and you will find other positions that have gone from pricy to almost worthless. All the funds make mistakes just like everyone else, but they do it with flair.
