Democracy is messy and unfair, but there is no better system we know of.

pure democracy is no better than any other form of tyranny. Add constitutionally protected rights of the individual to a democracy and you have something of value.

But once you start ignoring the rights of the individual in favor of the rights of the collective based on a democratic vote, it is doomed to corruption and tyranny. And we are seeing that in spades now. The rights of the individual that are specifically identified in the Bill of Rights are routinely violated by the government. You may not be bothered by it now, but when the political environment swings to the right and suddenly it is your rights that are being violated because the precedent was set by the Obama presidency to ignore the rights of individuals, you are going to wish that more care was given to protecting the rights of those who you disagreed with.
