UNEMPLOYMENT - In 1995, when the GOP took control of Congress, the unemployment rate was 5.6%. At the end of 2006, when they gave back control of Congress to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, it was 4.6%. During the 12 years of GOP control, the unemployment rate averaged 5.0%.
When Reid and Pelosi took over, the unemployment rate was 4.6%. Today, it is 9.6%. The average rate during the last four years of Democrat control of Congress was 7.4%.
STOCK MARKET - When Republicans gained a majority in Congress in 1995, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 3,834. When they handed over control to Democrats in 2007, it stood at 12,463, a gain during the period of 225%. Today, after four years of a Democrat majority, it stands at 11,118, down 11% while Democrats were in charge.
GDP GROWTH - In the 12 years Republicans had a majority in Congress, the average annual increase in GDP was 3.23%. In the last four years, under Democrat control, the annual average is minus 0.23 percent.
