Kevin Chang--a research analyst employed by a Taiwanese affiliate of Citigroup--released unpublished research information to a hedge fund and institutional clients one day before publishing virtually identical information to the public. What's new about this? It's not uncommon for "preferred customers" to receive this kind of research.. The "crime" is when SAC and the other recipients act on this information before it was released to the public.. But is that "inside information" when it comes from a private research firm whose products they pay to receive? If they are paying for "pre-release" access to proprietary analyst research reports, that's business, right? Heck, there are plenty of research reports that I don't get to see because I have to purchase them.. That's not exactly "public". Furthermore, Apple probably has a responsibility to come out and make a 8-K about the material event of their order flow declining. The public shouldn't have to find out from some obscure Chinese supplier. Hawk
