Re: "It's sad, but one or two more elections and you won't be able to get elected even in many red states if you act like these clownz that are having "their day in the sun"... over time sleazy carnival barkers reveal their true nature and put their foot in their mouths enough that they soon become irrelevant... such is the fate of Ted Cruz and many others."

I think our political circus and problems with Luddites and American Taliban and other assorted policy-inconsistent holier-than-thou Authoritarians will, (unfortunately), stick around with our nation a bit longer then your prediction of 'one or two more elections' since it is based upon STRUCTURAL problems in our government that tend to thwart democracy.

The root of all these problems can be stated in one word: gerrymandering.

(And the gutlessness of both political parties --- stretching all the way to the lapdogs of our supine Supreme Court --- which has for almost a hundred years now blocked efforts to rule gerrymandering an illegal and UNCONSTITUTIONAL practice.)

Politicians now are free to carve out their own districts, shaped farcically like snakes and salamanders and God-knows what else, and all this is to block the ability of anyone to challenge their hold over the office, to in effect block democracy and cancel-out moderation and compromise.

This creates and promotes and sustains extremism.

Absent a Supreme Court striking down the vile practice (something they have refused to consider for longer then either of us have been alive) then this particular bad patch of loco politicians will, unfortunately, be with us until after the next national census in 2020, where most likely the Democrats will do exactly the same things the Republicans did after the 2010 census... and gerrymander themselves into a position of domination over the House of Representatives for a decade or so. (They will pick the first fruits of this gerrymander in the 2022 elections... and again in 2024, etc.)

Sad, sad, sad..... the only way to get off of this ridiculous merry-go-round is to legally prohibit the practice across the length and breadth of our great land.
