You know, I hate to sound like a heretic but there is a lot of excellent fit between IBM and Apple. IBM has always wanted to have a highly respected, well-tested, OS that scales from the smallest desktop to the largest mainframe and has a audience all along the way. This can only be UNIX. Apple is the only business in existence that fills that need and they fit it perfectly.

One of IBM's biggest problems has always been that their products are viewed as the Solomon Grundy of the computer industry (born on Monday, married on Wednesday and dead on Friday). What is the IBM OS? AIX? - No, AIX is dead. OS2? - No, OS2 died on Friday. NT? - Not theirs. Another positive is that in box making Apple has made nice boxes for PPC but none for the Intel side where IBM has a lot worked out. Bottom line: IBM is better at box making and has a fat bank account. Apple is better at OS development.

I wish a hostile takeover would occur. Would the fans revolt? I doubt it. Most of the volume of Apple fans are professional graphic arts workers and they want to know their investment is in a business that will be around tomorrow.
