There is the rub...

It has been a principle of faith that the such obligations, based on the capacity of the most powerful economic engine on Earth, would always be able to meet its obligations

With judicious tweaking of the engine, that continues to be a truism, IMO

The black swan of course is a successful usurpation of the powers of government by terrorists whose mission is to destroy the institutions of government by undermining its ability to function as an ongoing enterprise

We have allowed this situation to materialize

The GOP as a terrorist enterprise bent on destruction of the current US form of government, will put the 9-11 event to shame if allowed to derail the debt ceiling imperative next week..
