American Stores to Stock Full Range of ChemTrak
Diagnostic Tests

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1997--ChemTrak Inc. (Nasdaq:CMTR -
news) Tuesday announced that American Stores Co., one of the nation's largest food and drug
companies, has begun stocking ChemTrak's full range of easy-to-use medical diagnostic tests in its
957 Osco Drug and Sav-on Stores.

The company recently announced that CVS/Pharmacy has also begun stocking ChemTrak's full
range of in-home diagnostic tests.

''We are very pleased that American Stores is now carrying our complete line of in-home tests,''
said Edward F. Covell, president and chief executive officer of ChemTrak. ''In December, we
began shipping our Parent's Alert Home Drug Test Service to screen for drugs commonly abused
by teens to American Stores.

''American Stores is already stocking CholesTrak Home Cholesterol Test and our ColoCARE
Home Test to Detect the Early Warning Signs of Colorectal Disease. Drug chain stores normally
stock three-four units of Parent's Alert. Our full product line is now available at many drug store
chains and supermarkets,'' he added.

In addition to its products for home use, marketed through major drug chains, ChemTrak has also
introduced two products for the Physician's office laboratory (POL) market this year. Its H. pylori
test determines the presence of bacterium associated with duodenal and peptic ulcers and the
ChemTrak AccuMeter Theophylline Test, a point-of-care quantitative assay for theophylline, was
recently cleared for marketing by the FDA.

Located in Sunnyvale, ChemTrak is a full-service medical diagnostics company offering reliable
and easy-to-use medical testing systems for in-home use and use in doctors' offices. ChemTrak
medical tests are designed to screen and diagnose health conditions with accuracy comparable to
physician and laboratory- administered tests.

The company expects to begin a nationwide consumer advertising program to introduce Parent's
Alert in early 1998.
