Kinda reminds me of the "local bus" phenomenon. PC manufactures shipped computers with this bus until the PCI bus was ready. As soon as it was the manufactures switched over to PCI.

I don't claim to know which format will win, but IMHO IOM should be very worried about the fact that the LS-120/Japanese drives are coming.
