NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION
WASHINGTON (FFBN) -- Nextel Communications Inc. has filed to exchange up to $1,129.1 million of publicly tradeable 9.75% senior serial redeemable discount notes due 2007 for all outstanding 9.75% senior serial redeemable discount notes due 2007.
Net proceeds from the original note offering were $682 million. The company plans to use the funds for general corporate purposes, including either refinancing outstanding debt or refinancing a portion of the cost of implementing a business plan that otherwise would have been funded by borrowings under a credit facility.
The original notes were sold on Oct. 22 in a private placement through Morgan Stanley & Co., Chase Securities Inc., J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., NationsBanc Montgomery Securities, Inc., TD Securities (USA) Inc., and Credit Suisse First Boston Corp.
