Kenneth, If I were President Obama, I would have a little private personal talk with Boehner and say, "Mr. Boehner, my legacy, Obamacare is law and I have my legacy. However, your Republicans are coming up for elections and if you want to take the US over the cliff with default that is your choice. However, I am in office for 2 plus years. I do not worry about my legacy since I already have mine. But, where are you Mr. Boehner? What will be you legacy. Thanks but no thanks Mr. Boehner.

If you wish to bargain in good faith, defined, "making offers and counter offers without reason." The normal process is placing all proposals on the same time with the cost factor included.
What would be the constituents response if they knew what they would be giving up, if they saw what they would lose vs the cost of the total package produced by the Republicans.
By the way, "NO" is and acceptable answer in bargaining. But, you have to bare the cost.

In other words let the US crash if Boehner want to play that card with his Tea Party types. They will go down with the ship.

Hold firm Obama.
