chroniclers give amazing numbers concerning the Muslims -- as many as 300,000. Suffice to say, the Franks were greatly outnumbered, and most historians are content with the figures of 80,000 Muslims against 30,000 Franks.

A battle between armies this size back in 732 was by no means a "minor skirmish". It is curious how badly, in the name of PC, modern historians are driven to devalue important events of the past. They are afraid that talking about old invasions and crucial great battles may erode the currently fashionable mood of submission.
