That is not what they teach in social science classes in the universities. It is right wing myth put forth by people who do not understand social science. Remember, as well, social science is backed up by hard science. LBJ's programs were the first step in our experimenting with how to address social needs. We are still experimenting.
Universities do not teach extremist ideas. They teach probable theories based on science.
As well, I was in the very unlikely position of designing and implementing 2/3 pretty large social programs pretty much by my self and saw them manifest into very successful programs from scratch.
I wrote the entire plan for a comprehensive emergency medical services system for Alaska and was the first state director, and implemented it.
When I started we had pretty much nothing. The sick and injured were transported to the closest medical facility anyway they could. Today they are stabilized on the spot by trained EMT's and transported with all the modern equipment. And so many more people live.
Today we have one of the most sophisticated EMS systems in the world and it works very well.
I did exactly the same thing with our alcoholism and drug abuse programs. And coordinated the Valdez oil spill response for H&SS and the governors office.
So I have a track record. And a BS in psychology and a masters in public administration.
On a personal basis I grew up in a working family with an alcoholic father in the sixth (today) most dangerous city in the country that is about half? African American.
I made it out and so did most of my friends. We made it out because California had affordable education and because I am lilly white and got every break in the world. I was always hired first and still it was a rough go. I doubt I would have made it out if I had been black.
So I am not musing about what it takes to solve our problems like most. I have personal experience in spades.
Your ideas have been the ideas of the right wing for 50 years and they don't work.

As to bleeding heart liberals they fail to realize personal responsibility and a strong family unit will do more to put people on the right path than any amount of money thrown at them by the federal gov't (no different than how much we spend trying to change behaviour in the middle east) or race baiters Jackson/Sharpton. Telling a group of ppl they are victims, creates resentment & a sense that everything the group then does is justified |
