There is a book on the logistics of Alexander's campaigns that does just that.

One of the reasons Alexander didn't leave a garrison to guard the Gates of Syria was because he knew the carrying capacity of the countryside behind him was exhausted and the Great King couldn't keep his army in the field behind the Greek army.

The Macedonian army required something on the order of 15 tons of food and fodder per day. Can you imagine the logistics of that in 334 BC?
