It isn't "free" when government can take your money because you choose not to buy a product that you simply do not want. That goes for car insurance, too -- the ONLY reason we have mandated car insurance today is that state legislatures are packed with lawyers and insurance agents. There was no need for it, whatsoever -- it gives insurance agents profits on the sale, and lawyers get deep pockets to sue. And the citizen gets zip for the freedom he gave up.
