Maybe because the tax code is simpler than Obamacare?
I get mad every time I do my return, because the tax code is so convoluted no three accountants can come up with the same result in semi-complicated returns.

I HATE my states sales tax, but then I do not have to do a return on it, and the state doesn't have to do anything but collect the money from vendors. I think it's the fairest form of taxation because nobody gets out of paying it because they are rich enough to hire lawyers and accountants to get out of paying their share, or poor enough that they don't have to pay anything anyway.

The premise that sales tax is regressive and hurts poor people is ridiculous, because poor people don't buy much and therefore don't pay much tax. But they do pay a little, which is more fair than not paying anything.
