"Caesar's Messiah" demonstrates that the Romans directed the writing of both. Their purpose: to offer a vision of a "peaceful Messiah" who would serve as an alternative to the revolutionary leaders who were rocking first-century Israel and threatening Rome.

Since the Hebrews pretty much patterned & stole from the Persian cosmology & earlier Mesopotamian myth stories , its uncanny that no one remarks more about this. This is so easily seen by anyone with an objective eye, including the Jews themselves . But such is the vested interest in keeping the illusion going it was all uniquely divinely inspired, which is the same problem we have with Mohammed stealing his templates from the Hebrew & Christian. Stories piled ontop of more stories, why fix what has worked before to get others to fall inline, plus both require all sacrifices & pilgrimages made to one special geographical center, well that's pretty obvious whats going on there, from inherent evolutionary prospect too.
Jewish Encyclopedia is quite open & overwhelming in comparing themselves to Zoroastrianism, you just cant even ignore, then throw in the interpretation of the more ancient Indo/Persian god "Mitra" meaning he who preserves the covenant, all becomes illuminated.
